& ENERGY MANAGEMENT SOLUTION
28% saving across trialled lodges using Energenie Solutions smart heating system.

Shorefield saw a 28% decrease in energy usage across trialled lodges at Oakdene. Energenie Solution’s smart hardware and energy management solution provided a clear energy reduction by manging the guests energy usage without reducing comfort.
Shorefield Holidays are a family-owned business providing high-quality holiday accommodation in Dorset and Hampshire, from camping pitches to fully equipped caravans, lodges, luxury homes and treehouses — many of which come with hot tubs. They’ve been in business since 1958 and currently operate eight holiday and leisure parks located along the South Coast.
The Problem
With hot tubs a big selling point for many of their luxury accommodation options, but facing rapidly increasing energy costs alongside a drive towards sustainability,
Shorefields were seeking a retrofit solution that could be easily installed by their in-house maintenance team and that would lower energy usage across their diverse range of accommodation options. Crucially, the parks needed to be able to operate as usual to ensure no loss of revenue.
Our non-intrusive solution could be installed with no impact on business, and enables Shorefield tomonitor and control energy usage in their lodges.
It also provides valuable data helping them to understand guest energy usage, which informs and supports their ongoing sustainability efforts.
The Solution
We were invited by Shorefield to come and carry out a site survey. We visited one of the parks and examined multiple lodges to draw up a detailed survey, with marked up floorplans showing where our products could be installed and the estimated energy savings.
Shorefield were impressed with our detailed proposal that highlighted precisely where the key reductions would be made — predominantly through heating control.
To implement our proposed solution, we installed an Energenie thermostat and radiator valves across the six lodges selected for the trial, giving the client the heating control we knew would lead to energy savings. We then identified six equivalent lodges where no measures were taken, and collected meter readings from all twelve lodges to compare performance and demonstrate the efficacy of our solution.
The performance measures confirmed that our solutions would deliver the expected savings, and we have continued to work with the customer to add in bespoke rules based on observations of the guests’ energy usage patterns as revealed by the data being collected and analysed by our software solution. We’ve also scoped out some further integrations with theirexisting booking platform to continue driving increased efficiency and sustainability.
The Results
Our solution was trialled between November and February 2023. During this period, we delivered a 23% energy saving and implemented a number of automations to improve performance based on our initial findings.
This demonstrates the virtue of a fully connected heating system, which adds ongoing value as we continue to identify further areas for improvement and automations that can increase savings. We look forward to seeing Shorefields’ energy savings grow as we continue to work with them and expand these solutions to different accommodation types and across more parks.
